Now lets talk about something a little different. Instead of one hero I feel we talk about a team of heros. They were first seen in JLA #107, October 1973, and had their own ongoing series Freedom Fighters in April 1976.
They’re considered natives from Earth-Two, who migrated to Earth-X. The initial team was Black Condor, Doll Man, Firebrand, Human bomb, Phantom Lady, The Ray, and Uncle Sam.In the final issue of 52, a new Multiverse is revealed, consisting of 52 realities. Among the parallel realities shown is one designated “Earth-10“, X being the Roman Numeral for 10. This new alternate Earth differs from the original pre-Crisis Earth-X. In original continuity, the Freedom Fighters were the only metahumans on the original Earth-X. However, the new Earth-10 is premised on the continued ascendancy of Nazi Germany, which was defeated in the original JLA/JSA/Freedom Fighters crossover.
Earth-10 is home to the JLAxis, which consists of Nazi counterparts of the Justice League, who combat an alternate version of the Freedom Fighters. Prefigured by comments by Grant Morrison, this alternate universe is not the pre-Crisis Earth-X, which renders these new characters unrelated to previous versions.
I personally love the Freedom Fighters, what ever they do is for the greater good of the people. Could this have been a ploy to garner some patriotic sentiment for the establish, maybe. Uncle Sam’s powers actually come from the patriotism of the nation, but I’ll take more about that with my post on the letter U. Till next time my friends.
